Yn ogystal â rhaglen arddangosfeydd yr oriel, rydym yn gweithio gydag artistiaid ar brosiectau arbennig gwahanol o bob math. Mae hyn wedi bod yn rhan o DNA yr oriel ers y dechrau - ac yn rhan o berthynas yr oriel â’i hartistiaid, yn gwireddu dymuniadau a ceisio cyfleuon diddorol
Cynhwysa hyn BANER, sef prosiect parhaol lle comisiyna TEN artistiaid - o fewn ac o du allan i’w stabl o artistiaid - i greu celfwaith ar gyfer y baner sy’n cyhwfan uwchben adeilad yr oriel. Digwyddodd y dadorchuddio cyntaf ym mis Rhagfyr 2022 a thros y blynyddoedd bydd llu o fflagiau gan artistiaid amlycaf Cymru yn cronni

Concurrent with the gallery’s exhibition programme, we work with artists on special projects. Such projects have been a part for the gallery’s DNA since the very beginning - and is part of the gallery’s relationship with its artists, seeking interesting opportunities and acting on artists’s aspirations
This includes BANNER, a continuous project which sees TEN commission artists - from within and outside of its stable - to create artwork for a flag which flies outside the gallery’s building. The inaugural unfurling took place in December 2022 and over the years, a fluttering of flags by Cymru’s most prominent artists will amass

The associated galleries of EAST presented the inaugural Roath Gallery Weekend (RGW) in May 2024.
The RGW, which ran 10 - 12 May, saw a varied, vibrant and full programme - with late night openings and special events scheduled throughout the weekend. Each gallery coordinated events to complement their current exhibition - which ranged from photography, installation, print, painting and craft. The Friday saw many venues staying open later than usual, perfect for an evening of gallery-hopping.
On the Saturday, there was the opportunity to drop in to madeinroath and add a square to the ‘Quilt for Palestine’, or take any inspiring shutterbugs to Ffotogallery’s Young Photographers workshop; before sampling local live music at Celf Gallery. Across the road, Albany Gallery provided sustenance and promoting the Arts Council of Wales’s Collectorplan scheme, while a stone’s throw away, Cardiff M.A.D.E hosted their annual spring plant sale. g39 offered the opportunity to meet the curator, Cymru’s largest artist run space, and the the makers at the long-standing co-operative Oriel Makers welcomed visitors to meet with them; while at TEN, photographer Jon Pountney presented a guided talk around his current exhibition.

EAST is both a physical and digital map promoting the 8 galleries that have found a home in the district of Roath in East Cardiff. No two galleries are alike and no two are more than 1 mile apart
Each location offers a different experience and area of expertise - from national and international photography (Ffotogallery, off Crwys Rd) to high-quality craft (Makers Gallery, Pen-y-Lan Pl); from the forward-thinking artist-led (g39, off City Rd) to the vibrant community-focused (madeinroath, Inverness Pl and Cardiff M.A.D.E, Lochaber St). Also included are three of the best independent galleries in Wales - the longest-standing gallery in Cardiff (Albany Gallery, Albany Road), contemporay art specialist (TEN, Donald St) the newest gallery to make Roath their home (Celf Gallery, Bangor Street)
Created by Cat Gardiner, the gallerist of TEN and launched in February, the maps have been well received. ‘The idea presented itself, really!’ stated Cat, ‘It just makes sense to link us all together in a way which encourages visitors, opens up the opportunity to collaborate and strengthens the creative identity of Roath’
Maps are available from each location, and keep an eye out for future EAST events - including the upcoming inaugural Roath Gallery Weekend.

Dadorchuddiwyd baner newyddl yn ystod arddangosfa aeaf yr oriel - y drydydd yn y gyfres. Y tro hwn, pleser oedd cael gwaith Laura Ford ar y faner - darlun o ‘Little Lord’, sef un o’r cerfluniau a grewyd ar gyfer ei harddangosfa bythgofiadwy yng Nghastell Coch yn 2019

10|2023 - Sophie Southgate x SAINT LAURENT RIVE DROITE
View Sophie Southgate artist page here
Mae’r artist ceramig a gwydr Southgate wedi’i comisiynu i greu corff o weithiau celf newydd gan SAINT LAURENT ar gyfer siop Rive Droite ar Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris ac ar Rodeo Drive, LA. Mae’r comisiwn hwn yn cynnwys datblygiad pellach yng nghyfres bop Southgate – cyfres sy’n cynnwys pils ceramig a lolis. Mae'r balwnau du, a ddangoswyd gyntaf yn 2022, wedi'u datblygu i ymgorffori DNA SAINT LAURENT. Mae balŵns yn symbol o blentyndod, maent yn arwydd byd-eang o ddathlu ond mae iteriad Southgate - trwy ei dewis o ddeunyddiau a lliwiau - yn trechu'r emosiynau a'r atgofion a gysylltwn â'r gwrthrychau llawen hyn. Ceir hefyd gwaith newydd o afalau taffi enfawr - yn diferu mewn gwydredd du - yn nodi’r tymor. Yn y gyfres hon, mae Southgate yn dal y tensiwn rhwng prosesau dynol a diwydiannol, rhwng hiraeth a moderniaeth, moethusrwydd a’r byrhoedlog. Bydd canlyniad y comisiwn hwn yn cael ei arddangos yn y ddau leoliad tan 11|2023

The gallery has worked closely with ceramic and glass artist Sophie Southgate on a large scale commission for SAINT LAURENT. A new series of ceramic artworks will be displayed at both Rive Droite stores on Rue Saint-Honoré, Paris and Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles. The commission sees a further development in Southgate’s pop series, with the black balloons, first showcased at the gallery in 2022, being developed to incorporate the SAINT LAURENT DNA. Balloons are symbolic of childhood, they are global emblems of celebration but Southgate’s iteration - through her choice of materials and colour - upend the emotions and memories that we attach to these joyful objects. A brand new artwork of oversized toffee apples - imposing and dripping in black glaze - sit in the windows, a nod to the season. In this series, Southgate captures the tension between humanmade and industrial processes, between nostalgia and modernity, luxury and ephemerality. The commissioned artworks will be on display in both locations until November 8th
09|2023 - Jon Pountney Casgliad • Collection Folio
Dyma ddetholiad sy’n dangos sawl agwedd nodedig o waith Pountney - tirwedd, elfennau abstract strwythurau sydd o’n cwmpas, yr ôl-ddiwydiannol, cip ar eiliad fyfyriol. Noda lens camera Pountney y momentau cyffredin a phwyntia at brydferthwch y dydd-i-ddydd - ac mae ei gariad at ei destun yn amlwg. Mae’r cariad hwn, ynghyd â’i adnabyddiaeth ddwfn o’i destun, yn trosi’n waith â chalon ddiffuant
•
This selection includes a number of Pountney’s recognisable themes - landscape, abstract structures, the post-industrial, the fleeting instants of reflection. His lens captures the familiar, showing us human moments and points at the beauty of mundane - and his love for his subject is clear. This love, coupled with his familiarity with his content, translates into authentic storytelling
07 | 2023 - Baner • Banner commission : Bedwyr Williams ‘Woman Who Grew Up…’
Purchase Instagram Tales, a new limited-edition publication produced by PageMasters
Heb os, Bedwyr Williams yw artist cyfoes mwyaf blaenllaw Cymru ac yn adnabyddus am ei hiwmor ddychanol, sych a’i natur arsylwadol craff - ac yn ddiweddar am ei gyfrif Instagram poblogaidd sy’n llawn darluniau sy’n chwerthin ar ben y byd celf, yn ddilornus o hipsters ac yn ddeifiol o ymddygiad cymaint tuat at Gymru, ein diwylliant a’n hiaith. Mae'r faner yn cynnwys wyneb un o'i gymeriadau - llun inc yn wreiddiol, gyda ysgrifen yn gosod y stori. Dywed Williams ‘Dwi wastad wedi bod gyda diddordeb mewn cymeriadau tawel fel protagonists neu observers’, a dyma fenyw a fagwyd yng nghysgod … [@Bedwyr_Williams 10 Mai]

Bedwyr Williams is undoubtedly one of Cymru’s most prominent artists and renowned for his satirical, close-to-the-quick observational artworks. His fabled Instgram account is filled with drawings poking fun at the too-serious art world, damning of hipsters and scathing of the behaviour of so many towards Cymru, Welsh culture and the language. The banner features the face of one of his reoccurring characters - originally an ink drawing complete with storytelling text. Williams states: ‘I’ve always been interested in introverted characters as protagonists or observers’, and here we have a woman who grew up in the shadow … [@Bedwyr_Williams 10 May]

12 | 2022 - Baner • Banner commission : Rebecca Wyn Kelly ‘Machlud’
Artist amgylchedd a thir o Orllewin Cymru yw Rebecca Wyn Kelly. Yn awdl i fachlud haul, fe wnaeth gwaith celf safle-ymatebol a thestun Kelly ein gwahodd i sefyll mewn actifiaeth gysegredig a hiraethu ar gyfer machlud haul cofiadwy o'r gorffennol. Codwyd chwaer-faner uwchben traeth Aberarth yng Ngheredigion [cartref Wyn Kelly] - y lleoliadau gwledig a threfol mewn cyferbyniad llwyr, ond eto dan yr un haul
•
Rebecca Wyn Kelly is an environment and land artist from West Wales. An ode to sunsets, Kelly’s site-responsive and text-based artwork invited us to stand in sacred activism and hiraethu for memorable sunsets of the past. A sister-flag was raised above Aberarth beach in Ceredigion [Wyn Kelly’s home] - the rural and the urban settings in complete contrast, yet under the same sun
03 - 05|2019 - Laura Ford ‘Squatters’ at Castell Coch
Cyflwynodd TEN arddangosfa o waith newydd gan Laura Ford mewn partneriaeth a Cadw. Dadorchuddiwyd cyfres o gerfluniau newydd yng nghastell eiconig Cymru, Castell Coch, a gwahoddwyd ymwelwyr i ddarganfod dros 20 o weithiau a grewyd gan un o artistiaid cyfoes mwyaf blaenllaw’r DU. Cafwyd torf o ymyrwyr arallfydol, wedi’u saernïo’n grefftus â llaw, eu cuddio a’u datgelu o fewn pensaernïaeth y castell wrth i ffigyrau ymddangos mewn clogynnau, yn eu cwrcwd neu’n hedfan o’r trawstiau. Dyma ailddadansoddiad Ford o’r llên a’r celf werin, sydd mor gynhenid i argraff y cyhoedd o’r castell, yn troi’n rhyfeddol ac weithiau’n sinistr
Dychmygodd Ford sgwrs uniongyrchol rhwng y gorffennol a’r presennol; sgwrs lle bu i parot-blant yn heidio i darfu ar ddathliadau yn y neuadd wledda; lle bu mwncïod yn rhedeg reiat yn siambr yr Arglwyddes Bute ac ymddangosir bod marchogion yn cael eu llorio yn y clos. Mae pob darlun yn destament i lwyddiannau Ford fel cerflunydd a storïwraig
•
TEN presented an exhibition of new works by Laura Ford in partnership with Cadw. Laura Ford unveiled a series of new sculptures inside Wales’ iconic Castell Coch [the Red Castle], where visitors were invited to discover over 20 works created by one of the UK’s leading contemporary artists. A meticulously handcrafted rabble of otherworldly interlopers were concealed and revealed within the castle’s architecture as figures appeared cloaked, crouched or soaring from the rafters. Ford’s reinterpretation of the folk lore and folk art, which is so intrinsic to the public perception of the castle, took on a fantastical and sometimes sinister edge
Ford imagined a direct conversation between the past and present; one where parrot-children flocked to disrupt festivities in the banqueting hall; where monkeys ran amok in Lady Bute’s chamber and knights are seemingly felled in the courtyard. Each tableau is a testament to Ford’s accomplishments as both a sculptor and storyteller
06|2018 - Sue Williams ‘MY CHERRY BOMB’ at Studio18
Cyflwynodd TEN 'MY CHERRY BOMB', arddangosfa unigol o waith newydd gan yr artist Sue Williams yn STUDIO18 ym Mhontycymmer. Cynhwysodd MY CHERRY BOMB corff o baentiadau ar raddfa fawr. Yn debyg i dudalennau o ddyddiadur gweledol - a gyhoeddir i bawb i'w gweld - adrodda baentiadau eofn Williams hynt a helynt sefyllfaoedd lletchwith a phrofiadau erotig. Yn ganolbwynt i’w gwaith, trafodir materion iechyd rhywiol a chyfarthrebu rhwng y rhywiau yn null nodweddiadol beiddgar a chryf o ddarlunio Williams - themâu sy'n cael eu harchwilio gyda gwirdeb a gonestrwydd crai
Arddangoswyd am y tro cyntaf ffolio print newydd a gynhyrchwyd ar y cyd â'r Print Market Project, Caerdydd. Yn fath o karma sutra yr oes ddigidol, mae LOVE HEARTS yn ffolio o 20 o brintiau mewn argraffiad cyfyngedig o 10. Yn wahanol iawn i faint a bywiogrwydd y paentiadau, mae'r printiau yn fonochrome ac yn fychan. Yn debyg i miniatures erotic y cyfnod Victoraidd, tro’r gynulleidfa yn voyeur - sefyllfa sydd efallai yn fwy cyfarwydd yn ein hoes sy'n dibynnu ar y digidol
•
TEN presented 'MY CHERRY BOMB', a solo exhibition of new work by award-winning artist Sue Williams at STUDIO18 in Pontycymmer. MY CHERRY BOMB featureD williams’ large-scale paintings on canvas. Akin to pages from a visual diary, published for all to see, Williams’ characteristically bold and immediate paintings tell of awkward encounters, sticky situations and erotic experiences. Issues of sexual communication, dysfunction and human frailty are imbedded in her work; themes which are explored and executed with such truthfulness and raw honesty
The exhibition showcased a newly developed print folio, produced in conjunction with the Print Market Project, Cardiff. A karma sutra for the digital age, LOVE HEARTS is a folio of 20 prints in a limited edition of 10. In stark contrast to the size and vibrancy of the paintings, the prints are monochrome and intimate in scale. Reminiscent of the Victorian-era’s erotic miniatures, the viewer becomes a voyeur - a position which is perhaps more familiar in today’s digitally dependent world
02|2018 - TEN x Roger Cecil at Oriel Myrddin
Arddangosfa grwp o waith gan bedair o artistiaid yr oriel ynghyd â gwaith yr enwog Roger Cecil. Helen Booth, Laura Edmunds, Catrin Llwyd Evans a Sarah Poland. Mewn cydweithrediad at Ystâd Roger Cecil

09|2017 - André Stitt ‘Astro-Civics’ at Studio18
Y cyntaf yn y gyfres o arddangosfeydd yn Studio18 ym Mhontycymer, Astro-Civics oedd arddangosfa o 6 llun ar raddfa fawr gan yr artist haniaethol André Stitt. Gwelodd y corff hwn barhad clir o’i archwiliad i bensaernïaeth briwtalaidd a threfi newydd ar ôl y rhyfel byd. Cyflwynwyd cymhlethdod dyfnach - yn ei fotiffau cyfnod-amwys ac yn ei themâu cyfnod-drosgynnol - gyda'r gorffennol, y presennol a'r dyfodol yn cydblethu ac yn rhyng-gysylltiedig
•
The first in the off-site exhibition series at Studio18 in Pontycymmer, Astro-Civics was an exhibition of 6 large-scale paintings by abstract artist André Stitt. This body of work saw a clear continuation of his exploration into brutalist architecture and the new towns of post-world war society. A deeper complexity was presented - in both its era-ambiguous motifs and in its era-transcending themes - with the past, present and future intertwined and interconnected
