Hanes • History
Wedi'i sefydlu yng Nghaerdydd yn 2010, mae oriel TEN wedi esblygu trwy wahanol ymgnawdoliadau. Ym mis Chwefror 2021 gwnaed gwaith adnewyddu helaeth i gartref presennol yr oriel, sef cerbyty Fictorianaidd deulawr sy’n ofod i raglen arddangosfeydd cyhoeddus yr oriel, tra hefyd yn croesawu cleientiaid i weld gweithiau celf trwy apwyntiad preifat.
Mae’r symud uchelgeisiol hwn yn arwydd o dwf cyson yng ngweithrediadau’r oriel ers adleoli o’u lleoliad yng nghanol y ddinas yn 2016. Mae gan yr oriel hanes o addasu i amgylchiadau heriol a newidiol - ac mae prynu cartref parhaol yn ystod cyfnod o fregusrwydd economaidd byd-eang o dan Covid, yn dwyn i gof achosion mentrus tebyg yn hanes yr oriel. Sefydlwyd prosiect/ten yn 2010, ymgnawdoliad cyntaf TEN yng nghanol y dirwasgiad ariannol byd-eang - roedd yn oriel dros dro, crwydrol; yn ddiweddarach daeth yr oriel o hyd i'w chartref cyntaf ar Blas Windsor mawreddog Caerdydd yn 2012. Penderfynodd cyfarwyddwr yr oriel, Cat Gardiner gau y gofod yng nghanol y ddinas yn 2016 ar ôl genedigaeth ei phlentyn cyntaf, ond yn sgil yr ymrwymiad i gynnal llwyfan i’w hartistiaid, symudodd yr oriel i gartref y teulu gan gynnal arddangosfeydd cyson a gweithredu fel viewing room drwy apwyntiad preifat o 2016 hyd 2020.

TEN. a new gallery space for Cardiff, on Tyn-y-Coed Place just meters from Roath Park.
In Febuary 2021 the two storey, former coach house underwent extensive refurbishment to house a 500 square foot exhibition space and large mezzanine office. The new site, which is positioned at the rear of the family home of gallery director Cat Gardiner, will continue the gallery’s public exhibition programme whilst also welcoming clients to view works of art by private appointment.
This ambitious move, signifies a steady growth in the gallery’s operations since relocating from their city-centre outpost in 2016. The gallery has a history of adapting to both challenging and changing circumstances and the purchase of a permanent premises during a period of global economic vulnerability, calls to mind similar venturous moments in the gallery's history. Having established the gallery’s first incarnation project/ten - a nomadic pop-up gallery - in 2010 amidst the global financial recession - the gallery later found their first home on Cardiff’s prestigious Windsor Place in 2012. Gallery director, Cat Gardiner made the decision to close the city-centre space in 2016 after the birth of her first child but the commitment to maintaining a platform for her artists saw the gallery move into the family home which coupled as a by appointment viewing space from 2016 - 2020.
