Memories, emotions and past experiences are transmitted in this process. The viewer is left with a mass of unorganised blocks & shapes that serve only as a visual marker to the structure's original function.”
Jon Thomas is a contemporary artist and sculptor based in Swansea on the South Wales coast, originating from a small Welsh mining community in the Black Mountains.
Jon originally studied 3-dimensional design at Sheffield Hallam University before a path through travel and eCommerce led to sculpture in 2017. Jon’s sculptures combine contemporary materials with repeating geometric and architectural forms. ‘My work explores the relationship between a building’s structure and its original function. With influences as diverse as the bauhaus to the stone architecture of ancient civilisations.’
